EMC in talks to train varsity faculties in IT skills

DOHA EMC CORPORATION, one of the global leaders in IT and business transformation, is in the final stage of talks with various universities in Qatar to provide training for the faculty members in managing the latest IT skills such as ‘Big Data’ and other technologies, said Bill Teuber, vice-chairman, EMC Corporation. The EMC official also revealed that the company registered 172 percent growth in the year 2010- 2011 in Qatar and holds 43 percent of the market share in the country.

As regards the EMC educational programme, Tueber said, “We have a programme called ‘Train the Trainers’ under which we provide training to the faculty members of universities. We are in the final round of talks with some of the leading universities in Qatar and it might be finalised soon.”

He went on to add that under the programme, EMC will design a curriculum and will provide training on latest developments in the field of IT services such as Big Data and other related technologies. “This will enable the faculty to come into terms with the fast developing technologies and would help them transfer the technology to the students,” he added.

Teuber, who is also the executive sponsor for the emerging markets for EMC, said that Qatar is an exciting market with tremendous opportunities. “According to the latest IDC survey about Qatari market, EMC holds 43 percent of the market share and is the number one IT services company in Qatar. Our market share is going up with many of the top organisations as well as small and medium enterprises availing our services,” he said, adding, “EMC will open its corporate office in Qatar early next year.”

As for the Qatari market, Teuber said that EMC was concentrating on major sectors in Qatar. He elaborated, “Public sector is one of the priorities for us. We are in touch with various ministries as the government is investing heavily in IT. We are also focusing on universities and telecom companies which need various IT services.”
