DOHA MULTINATIONAL jewellery and timepiece brand Mouawad, which has set three world records, one of them in Doha itself, for its unique pieces, unveiled its diamond necklace with a centrepiece hailed as the world’s largest internally flawless diamond weighing 407.48 carats at Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition (DJWE) on Tuesday.
The largest flawless diamond has been certified by Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and the exotic necklace named L’Incomparable Diamond Necklace consists of 91 diamonds totalling 635.40 carats. It will be on display at the Mouawad booth throughout the show, which runs until March 3
“Each year, at the DJWE, we come to Qatar with a very special item from the Mouawad masterpiece collection.
In 2011, we unveiled the Mouawad 1001 Nights Diamond Purse, which later made its way to the Guinness Book of World Records for being the costliest purse of the world”, said Pascal Mouawad, Guardian of the Mouawad Retail Division.
Pascal added, “In 2012, we unveiled the Snow White Princess Diamond Watch with former Miss Universe Natalie Glebova. And this year, the unveiling of the largest, flawless diamond coincides with the 10th anniversary of DJWE.” Weighing 890 carats in its rough state, the diamond was found in Congo in 1980 by a little girl in a rubble pile of kimberlite. The diamond exchanged hands and was made public in 1984 in its polished form. It was then put on display at several museums with the first one being the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC.
The coloured shield stepcut diamond is now suspended gracefully from a strikingly diamond necklace featuring a cavalcade of pristine, radiant diamonds of various cuts sublimely intertwined by 18K rose gold.
