Bangladesh, Qatar agree on QR750

A senior official of the Bangladesh Embassy in Qatar is DOHA Qatar housemaids BANGLADESH has agreed to send for a minimum wage of QR750 per month, told Qatar Tribune.

"There is no question of salary with Qatar on the housemaids.

We have agreed to the terms and conditions put forth by the Qatari officials with regard to the recruitment of housemaids from Bangladesh. We have no requirements like QR 1000 per month as salary for housemaids, "said the official.

"The Qatari government is in the long discussions and negotiations with us to deliver domestic workers. Qatar stressed that the first priority was so much recruit housemaids from Bangladesh were involved.

The Government of Bangladesh will start sending housemaids to Qatar after this agreement, "said the official.

The new agreement will increase the availability of domestic workers, a necessity driven by the rapidly growing population and economy of Qatar.

Qatar wishes to recruit 30,000 housemaids from Bangladesh.

These girls would be sent to Qatar via both government channels and recruiting agencies in Bangladesh.

Qatar also has great interest in the recruitment of workers from Bangladesh for the construction, hospitality and other sectors for which the in large numbers.

Qatar's drive to meet the increased demand for domestic workers is not without hitches, largely due to some States require of higher wages and better terms and conditions for their nationals.

The Government In December last year, an unofficial ban on new work visas for Filipinas entering Qatar.

Local manpower agencies said that the move was a response to efforts by the Philippines to enhance a minimum wage of QR1460 per month, compared with average pay of around QR800 in Qatar.
