DOHA THE Minister of Awqaf (Religious Endowments) and Islamic Affairs HE Dr Ghaith bin Mubarak bin Imran al Kuwari has said that the total volume of endowments in Qatar is estimated at QR 5 billion.
Speaking on the sidelines of the 6th Forum on Endowment Jurisprudential Issues, he said that the Ministry is planning to re-evaluate the size of endowments in Qatar. It is planning to develop new products in order to increase the size and assets of endowment in the country, the minister added.
He pointed to the major role endowments played within the local community, especially in areas of education, health, mosques and various forms of righteousness and piety.
The minister noted that the Forum is an opportunity and a platform for discussions and consultation in the affairs of endowments.
The Forum also falls within the framework of the efforts of the nation to strengthen the role of Waqf in the Islamic world, he added.
The forum, being organised under the auspices of the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al Thani, has delegations from 15 Arab and Muslim countries participating. Themed ‘new issues and judicial rooting’, the forum will discuss a number of legal issues in the present times, relating to Islamic jurisprudence in the area of ‘Awaqf’.
