MBT takes action in 80 fraud cases

THE Consumer Protection Department (CPD) of the Ministry of Business and Trade (MBT) has initiated action in 80 cases of commercial fraud registered in April.

These cases of fraud came into light during the CPD’s regulation inspection of shops and business entities.

While 28 cases involved not mentioning the price in Arabic on products and services, 23 products and services were found without any price tag.

The department also registered cases against shops where 11 products were found with false and deceptive information.

Five cases of selling expired tires were found.

Three cases were registered for lack of commitment to return the item with a response value or replaced. Two cases of selling products with special offer without obtaining prior authorisation were also registered.

While one case of a product not advertising prices in a clear manner was found, one shop was found giving discounts on a product without obtaining prior authorisation.

While one case of noncompliance with the terms of the license for the promotion granted was registered, another case of non-compliance bulletin prices of vegetables and fruits were also registered.

One case against a factory was registered for increasing the price of concrete blocks, while another shop was booked for charging the price of an item higher than its advertised price.

While one case was registered against a shop where it was found imposing purchase of certain quantities of a commodity or buy other commodity with it.

One case was registered where a product was found not specifying a data service and its advantages and characteristics and their prices in a clear manner.

The CPD conducts regulator inspections for monitoring the compliance of suppliers’ obligations stipulated in law no 8 for the year 2008 to protect the rights of consumers.

The department also received 413 complaints by the consumers and referred them to competent authorities.
