Prices of fish, vegetables to be regulated

DOHA THE Cabinet has approved the decision of the Minister of Business and Trade to regulate the price of fish and seafood in the country, as also the process of their sale.

The decision of the minister included provisions for the sale of domestic and imported fish and seafood from wholesalers to retailers, in order to protect the interests of the consumer through the auction determined by the Consumer Protection Department.

The Department determines and controls the maximum retail prices and issues a daily bulletin setting the maximum selling price. The seller is obliged to display the prices prominently and clearly.

The Cabinet in its weekly meeting, chaired by the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al Thani, also approved a draft decision amending some provisions of ministerial decision No 3 of 1992 regulating the process of sale of fruit and vegetables in the Central Market.
