Qatar slams attack in Mogadishu

DOHA, QATAR has condemned Sunday car bombing attack in Mogadishu that killed nine people, calling it a "heinous crime." Offering deepest sympathies to the Somali Government and to the families of those killed in the attack, a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, "the State of Qatar condemns all forms of violence and supports the Somali Government efforts for peace and reconciliation in Somalia".

It stresses that differences in opinions can not justify an attack. "The State of Qatar calls on the international community to provide the necessary assistance to the Somali Government in its goals," the statement added.

Sunday the blast was the latest in a series of bloody attacks in the capital by the sea, where Shebab insurgents have vowed to topple the Government and have set off bombs and launched guerrillastyle strikes.

The attack came for a Conference in London on Tuesday to draw up plans to boost security and development in conflict-torn Somalia.

More than 50 countries and organizations will take part in the negotiations, co-organized by the President of the Somali Hassan Sheikh Maganda and British Prime Minister David Cameron.
