QU research labs get fresh U.S. accreditation

DOHA QATAR University research laboratories of Environmental Studies Center (ESC), Center of advanced materials (CAM) and central laboratories unit (CLU) have renewed their ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation status by the American Association for laboratory accreditation (A2LA), repeating their status as world-class facilities with international standards and best practices.

According to a press release from Qatar University (QU) obtained the labs of A2LA accreditation originally way back in April 2010. Since then, A2LA has conducting audits periodically to evaluate the quality management systems at the QU research laboratories. The accreditation has confirmed until June 2014 after the findings of the audit concluded that the labs in June 2012 that fully complies with the requirements of accreditation defined in ISO/IEC 17025: 2005.

As one of the essential requirements of accreditation, Qatar University research labs successfully participated in the proficiency testing programs with ASTM (USA), MAPEP (US Department of energy) and LGC standards (UK). To increase the technical competence of its staff, Qatar University has a series of training programmes of organisations such as internationallyrecognised A2LA (USA) and UKAS (UK).

ISO/IEC 17025 is the main one standard for calibration and testing laboratories in the world and is used in the development of the management system capable of producing accurate and reliable results.

To this standard accredited laboratories have demonstrated technical competence and ability to produce precise and accurate test data.
