Somalia seeks Qatar’s help for reconciliation

DOHA SOMALIA seeks Qatar’s intervention to reach national reconciliation, the President of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud has said. Speaking to Qatar News Agency on Monday, the Somali president said that the people and government of Somalia “have complete faith in Qatar’s ability to help them reach a national reconciliation.” Praising the role of Qatar in regional and international politics under the guidance of the Emir His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani, Mahmoud said that Somalia wanted to make use of Qatar’s expertise in this regard.

Mahmoud said that his talks with HH the Emir focused on strengthening bilateral relations as well as discussing regional and international affairs. He also described relations between both countries as strong.

The president said that finding ways regarding rebuilding Somalia was one of the priorities of his visit to Qatar. He noted that a joint Qatar-Somalia committee convened weeks ago in Doha on an invitation from Qatar’s Foreign Ministry. The committee was asked to present its recommendations on means to support the education and health sectors in Somalia.
