DOHA BRITISH Ambassador to Qatar HE Michael O’Neill has said that the embassy issued 33,000 visas last year, almost double the number in 2010, whereas there was 30 percent increase in the visas issued in the first quarter of this year compared to the corresponding period last year.

In his statement to the press on the UK visa service in Qatar, the ambassador said, “We are delighted so many Qataris are travelling to the UK for tourism, business and other purposes. We are proud to offer an excellent visa service at the embassy. We promise to give 90 percent of applicants a decision within three weeks.” He added, “In the past two years we have never broken that promise: an average applicant gets his visa within five working days. Besides, we are constantly looking to improve the visa process, for example with a priority visa service and online applications, appointments and payments.” “We have also introduced our priority visa service for those pressed for time. For an additional QR564, an applicant can have his application processed more quickly – normally within two days. There are some exceptional cases where we cannot process an application as fast we would like, and we provide a contact to raise these cases separately”, the ambassador asserted.

O’Neill further pointed out, “We constantly look to make the visa process easier, and we have now introduced online applications, online appointments and online payments as well as a refurbished premium lounge in the application centre. And we offer six month multiple entry visas as standard.”
