Japan’s folk culture to come alive at Katara show on October 22

DOHA A TWO-DAY theatre and dance fest organised by Japan’s Human and Cultural Exchange General Incorporated Association with the support of Qatar’s Ministry of Culture Arts and Heritage will open in Doha on October 22.

To run at Drama Theater in Katara, the programme will feature 15 prominent artistes from Japan. The show is being held as part of ‘Qatar Japan 2012’ to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Qatar-Japan diplomatic relations.

Japan’s most popular theater performance ‘Kengeki Harukomzawa’ will be the highlight of the programme.

During an interaction with the media, the Japan Ambassador to Qatar HE Kenjiro Monji said that the programme would be a beautiful depiction Japan’s traditional art and culture.

Monji said, “Japan has a long history of theatre. Japan’s theater has deep roots in its rich folk tradition, music and even martial arts. ‘Kengeki Harukomzawa’, the most popular theater performance, will portray the beauty of tradition but also include entertaining features. It will provide an opportunity for the people from around the world to experience the cultural flavours of Japan on a single platform.”

Some of the actors will impersonate beautiful women during the show. The mystical world of folk music, dance and traditional costumes of the actors likely will attract large numbers of people to the show.

The show will consist of popular tales that have become part of the Japanese folklore, songs, dances and music. The costumes used by the performers will the other attraction of the show.

The performance will see Japan’s most popular theater artiste Ryu Tsugara in the lead. A photo session to follow the programme will provide an opportunity for the members of the audience to take snaps of the performers in their costumes.

Entry to the show will be by ticket priced at QR50.
