SCH announces first H1N1 death

DOHA the Supreme Council of health (SCH) has announced the death of a 43-year-old Qatari due to Influenza A H1N1.

The SCH said the citizen was admitted to the hospital on 29 March, with breathing difficulties and high fever, adding that he also suffered from chronic diseases.

The patient suffered from severe pneumonia and received antiflu treatment. He was admitted to the ICU under the supervision of a medical team but his condition did not improve. He died on Thursday.

In a press release, the SCH called the public to take preventive measures and to visit the nearest health centre when the symptoms of the flu are suspected, in particular associated with an increase in temperature, coughing, sneezing, or shortness of breath.

It stresses the importance of vaccination against influenza, especially for people at risk of influenza complications including the elderly, people suffering from chronic diseases, children under five, pregnant women and people who suffer from immunity deficiency.

The SCH said the sequel all cases in cooperation with the national Flu Centre of the Hamad Medical Corporation.

The Center is one of the recognized centers in the world, which under the supervision of the World Health Organization (WHO).
