SCH workforce development strategy before end of the year

DOHA the Supreme Council of health (SCH) will launch a workforce development strategy for the health sector in Qatar by year's end, Matthew has Tagney, program support manager for the national health strategy on the SCH Directorate of policy Affairs, said.

Speaking at the launch of the International Council of nurses (ICN) leadership for change programme in Doha on Sunday, Tagney said the new strategy would determine the number of doctors, nurses, and other allied health professionals in Qatar in the coming years would be required to meet the objectives set out in the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the national health strategy 2011-2016.

According to Tagney, the strategy for the development of policies that support workers also coming for career development of health care professionals in the country offer would perform.

Dr. Nabila al More, Deputy Head of continuing care group & SCH Nursing Affairs, said, "nurses constitute the largest healthcare workers of Qatar. So, they should be equipped, because they have an important role in the development of health care. We need to develop them in the field of leadership, education, clinical practice and research. " She added that the two years nursing leadership program, which was launched during the event, was developed to rest Qatari nurses for the same reasons.

A total of 33 Qatari nurses are to take part in the ICN leadership program and are set to graduate the course in two years. Qatar's three national coordinators, including nurses from the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), primary health care Corporation and the Supreme Council of health are also participate in the program to support the participants.

The program was launched by the SCH in collaboration with the World Health Organisation and the ICN.

"The training aims at development of nurse and other allied health professionals leadership skills and competencies in the management of healthcare services. In the next two years will be the participating nurses can influencing policy and health system improvement, developing quality and cost effective models of service delivery, effective contributions to the broader health care team become and continue to train other nurses in the program. Hopefully in the future we also take other allied health professionals in the program, "said more.

During the event, Dr. Ann Mary discussed Cannaby, Executive Director of Corporate Nursing on HMC the two-year nursing strategy, which was launched by the HMC recently.

According to her is an integral part of the new strategy for nursing a comprehensive leadership program for Qatari nurses.

She said the strategy also focuses on education, research and development of Qatar nurses to support the sustainability of nursing in Qatar, in addition to attracting more Qataris in the nursing profession in the country.
